Microblading

What is microblading?

Microblading, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, is the process of implanting colour pigment in the upper layers of skin by means of tiny, sterile needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes. This is a semi-permanent option, lasting anywhere from 8 months – 2 years.

What is Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation, commonly known as cosmetic tattooing, is the process of inserting colored pigments just beneath the skin’s surface. At Nikki’s Beauty Bar we use a state of the art digitally controlled computerized micropigmentation machine. We are able to select the size and depth of the needles which allows precision and a consistent distribution of pigments. This procedure typically lasts between 3-5 years.

Can I get microblading if I'm pregnant?

Your well being is important to us, so as a precaution, we do not offer microblading or micropigmentation while pregnant or nursing.

How should I prepare before my microblading appointment?

If you have an ideal shape in mind, bring a few reference photos with you and fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration your desired shape.

Additionally:

  • If you are planning a vacation, it is recommended that your appointment is a minimum of 14 days before travel to allow for healing.
  • We ask and require that you avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
  • If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.
  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. The exfoliation that occurs from a sunburn will pull the pigment out, making the procedure much less effective.
How will my brows look after my appointment & during healing?

Your brows will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first few days. As they heal, they will gradually lighten. Flaking is normal, don’t panic! Redness and swelling is minimal, and aftercare information will be provided at your appointment.

AFTER CARE for microblading & micropigmentation?

How you care for the procedure area over the next 7-10 days will largely determine the final appearance and longevity of your microblading or micropigmentation.

The healing period discussed below is 7-10 days typically, although it will take 30 days for the procedure area to have fully healed.

Please follow these instructions carefully for the best results:

  • During healing, please apply the recommended aftercare balm to the procedure area 2-3 times a day.
  • Always apply aftercare with clean hands. Never let the procedure area feel tight or completely dry.
  • Flaking and crusting may occur as the skin heals. Picking or peeling at the procedure area may cause loss of pigment and scarring.
  • Please avoid using makeup on or around the procedure area during the healing process. If makeup touches the procedure area it can increase the risk of an infection
  • Do not wet your brows for 3-5 days and avoid showering for the first 12-24 hours.
  • Pools, saunas, hot yoga, tanning, excess sweating and facial procedures should be avoided during the healing period. Botox should be avoided for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks following your appointment
  • Skin creams and products containing Retin-A, AHA or any kind of skin peel should not be used prior to or post procedure, as they will fade and possibly distort the procedure area.
  • After healing, applying sun block is recommended to protect your semi-permanent makeup from fading or discolouring. (SPF 50 is recommended).
  • The pigment is expected to be darker for the first 3-5 days after your appointment. Don’t panic…they will lighten and change every day during the healing period.
  • Within 1-2 weeks, 40-60% of the pigment will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.
  • After the procedure area heals, a touch-up appointment will be needed; the process is not considered complete without it! Your touch-up appointment should be booked 4-6 weeks after your initial appointment and is booked before leaving.
Is there an age restriction for Microblading or Micropigmentation?

You must be 18 years or older to undergo Microblading or Micropigmentation at Nikki’s Beauty Bar.

What health conditions would prevent me from getting Microblading or Micropigmentation?

We can NOT perform Microblading/Micropigmentation if you:

  • Are pregnant or nursing;
  • Are undergoing chemotherapy or have undergone chemo in the past 12 months;
  • Are sick or unwell;
  • Have a distinctive previous tattoo, a skin disorder or rash in the brow area;
  • Are under the age of 18;
  • Have Keloid scarring anywhere on your body;
  • Are on any acne medications such as Acutane;
  • Are under the influence of drugs or alcohol;
  • Have had or are planning to have Botox, fillers, or injections within 2 weeks before or after your appointment.

If you use Retin A please prohibit use for 2 weeks before and after, chemical peels 4 weeks. Please bring a doctor’s note if you have an autoimmune disorder, epilepsy, heart problems, a skin disorder in your brow area, or if you take blood thinners.

Brows

Do you have different colours of tint?

YES! We have several different tint colours and all tints can be left on the brows for various amounts of time to achieve the perfect shade for you!  The longer the tint stays on, the darker it will become and the longer it can last.

Does tint stain my skin?

Tinting generally only tints the brow hair, however we are able to leave the tint on longer to tint your skin. Tinting on the skin generally only lasts 1-3 days post-appointment.

What is the difference between brow tint and brow henna?

Brow tint uses a similar dye that Hair Stylists use. The tint is mixed with peroxide and then applied to the brows for 1-10 minutes and lasts on the hair for 3-4 weeks. Brow Henna is a specially formulated Henna mixture made specifically for eyebrows. The natural powder is mixed with rosewater and then applied to the brows for 15-20 minutes and lasts on the hair for 4-6 weeks. If you have very light or full eyebrows, or do not normally wear a lot of brow makeup, we recommend starting with brow tinting. If you are used to a more filled-in and defined brow, are looking for a longer lasting solution, or are looking to camouflage gaps or sparse brow hair, we recommend booking a Brow Henna service!

How do I help the longevity after my brow service?

The most important factor in extending the longevity of brow tint and Brow Henna is to not get the brow area wet for 48 hours after application. Also, caution when applying any type of skin care products containing exfoliators, face scrubs, moisturizers, or oil based products!  (topical acne medications, retinol, lightening products, alpha hydroxy acids, benzol peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid etc.) Keep all of these away from your brows as they will take away their color, and cause fading quicker.

How can I grow my natural brow hair back?

Castor oil is one of the best-known, “in home” treatments to help promote brow hair growth, we offer a roll on balm here at the beauty bar! ($5.50)  Because it can be quite harsh by itself, we have mixed with coconut , these oils can also contribute to hair growth.

How often should I come for a brow shaping?

Everyone’s hair growth cycle is different, therefore the time between appointments can vary from 4-6 weeks.

Lash Extensions

What is the difference between Classic and Volume Extensions?

Classic extensions refer to the process of carefully applying one lash extension to one natural lash. Volume is an advanced technique that involves creating handmade fans of 2 or more very thin, lightweight lashes to one natural lash. Volume can provide a fuller, denser  appearance for clients.

Why are my lashes falling out?

There are a couple factors to consider.

  • Are you cleansing your lashes? Build up can occur due to dust, residue and make up. Quality cleansers are available at the salon.
  • Are you touching your eyes often? Oils from your fingers can compromise the adhesion of your lashes quicker.
  • Are you applying mascara to your extensions? No make up should be applied to extensions as their ingredients will compromise the adhesion and cause the extensions to fall out much quicker.
Can lash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Extensions will not damage your eyelashes if they are applied correctly. Choosing the proper curl and diameter and using the right amount of adhesive prevents damage. We are certified artist and provide a professional service.

How do I remove lashes?

If you for any reason are looking to have your lashed removed, we highly recommend having them professionally removed to ensure no damage to your natural lashes! Pulling and picking can remove your natural lashes

The removal process using professional serum takes about 10 minutes.

How often do I need fills?

Fills are typically recommended every 2-3 weeks, depending on lash growth.

You have approximately 150 follicles in your upper lash line and approximately 70 in your lower lash line, and they grow and shed at different rates.

There are three phases of hair growth; Anagen (which we refer to as baby hairs) followed by Catagen or teenage hair. The final phase of growth is Telogen, or the adult hairs.

It is healthy and normal to lose between 1 and 5 natural lashes per day. If you are losing more than 5 extensions per day and/or the extensions are shedding without being attached to the natural lash, let your lash technician know right away.

What are the lashes made out of?

PBT or Polybutylene Terephthalate is a silk blend of fibres, which are the same fibres tooth brush hairs are made from. They are high quality synthetic fibre unlike acrylics and offer a fuller lash. They are heated and treated with formulations that give the appearance and feel of mink, silks, faux mink or Siberian mink. They are lightweight and flexible.

How long does a full set take to apply?

Depending on what style you choose (classic, volume or a combination), as well as the experience level of your artist, it can take up to 3 hours for a full set and up to 2 hours for fills.

Can you trim extensions?

We recommend not trimming your lashes as it runs the risk of trimming your natural lashes. Additionally, extensions are tapered at the end so trimming would create a blunt end, and an unnatural look.

Studio Policies

Please note we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you would like to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please give either studio a call at (204) 823-2123. We do not accept email cancellations. Clients that cancel with less than 24 hours notice, are more than 10 minutes late, or do not show up to their appointment will be charged 50% of the service cost and will have to reschedule for a future date.

Children/Friends are not permitted in the Lashing rooms and cannot be left unattended in the waiting area. Please arrange alternative care during your appointment.

Plasma Lift

What is Plasma Lift?

Plasma Lift is also known as Fibroblast Plasma Soft Surgery, it has gained a reputation as the best non-surgical procedure in the beauty and cosmetic industry for skin tightening, eye lifts, skin tag removal, tattoo removal, and so much more.

How does it work?

Fibroblast treatment is performed with a device called a Plasma Pen. This pen uses the voltage in the air between the tip and the skin to create a plasma flash. This flash is an electrical arc that instantly causes tissue to retract, which results in the tightening and shrinking of the targeted skin.

How long will it last?

As with most cosmetic and/or surgical procedures, Fibroblast treatments often require follow-up appointments and treatments. Results can last for years, depending on the area, client, and quality of aftercare. Clients will also be provided with aftercare instructions and additional information on factors that will affect the longevity of their treatment, such as sun exposure, alcohol consumption, and smoking.

How fast will I see results?

Preliminary results are immediate, however as the deepest layers of the skin will continue to heal over a 6 week period, results will improve over time, with most clients starting to see their best results around 4 weeks post-treatment.

What is recovery like?

Fibroblast treatment is referred to as “soft” surgery because it delivers similar results as cosmetic surgery without the risk, cost, or recovery time. It is non-invasive and pain is minimal. Numbing agent is applied for the client’s comfort, and the entire procedure lasts approximately 30-60 minutes. As the plasma flash comes into contact with the skin, it leaves a tiny dot on the skin’s surface, referred to as “carbon crusts.” They are quite small and will usually fall off within a week of the treatment. Most clients will notice some swelling and tenderness for about 7-10 days post-treatment, particularly around the eyelids as they are most sensitive. After that period, most clients will notice that the majority of the swelling has gone down, however, the deepest layers of the skin will still be healing for up to 6 weeks.

How many treatments are needed for skin tightening?

It varies per client, however, most clients only require an average of 1-3 treatments depending on how much skin needs tightening and how well the client’s skin responds to the treatment. Most clients will see fairly significant results after the first treatment, and if additional treatments are required, they will be done after 6 weeks.

Is it safe?

It is very safe, low-risk, and highly effective. As with most cosmetic treatments, a consultation with an experienced, trained practitioner prior to service, as well as a strict aftercare routine, is required to promote proper healing and to help your achieve the maximum results.

What are tape in extensions?

Tape in extensions are the newest hair extension trend on the market. Tape in hair extensions are thin tape wefts, 1 inch wide pre-taped hair wefts, that get “taped-in” in between your own hair in “sandwich” like bonds. It is the most requested hair extension method in salons worldwide. This method is 100% natural, requires no tools or chemicals, and lasts up to three months-and the hair is reusable!

How are hot tools around the hair going to affect the tape ins?

We do not advise using heat or a flat iron on or too close to the extensions. IN FACT- Adding heat will cause the glue to melt and spread making it difficult to remove. Please be careful!

Laser Hair Removal

Are hair removal treatments safe?

Laser and light-based treatments have been safely used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures.

What are the treatments like?

Laser energy is delivered through a small handpiece. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The heat is then absorbed by the cells being targeted, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Your skin may be slightly red immediately following the procedure. This typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.

Are treatments painful?

Our Laser Hair Removal treatments use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen in adjustable durations—milliseconds before the laser pulse. DCD helps ensure that the treatments are as comfortable as they are effective.

How long does it take?

Treatment times may vary depending on your specific needs. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment and the number of treatments required will be based on your hair color and type, body area and skin tone. 4-6 sessions is the average amount of sessions needed.
